Your Health Plan Update

For 2014, Apria employees will be offered a different type of deductible plan. If you’re enrolled in a Kaiser Permanente Deductible HMO plan in 2013, you’ll want to keep up-to-date with what Kaiser Permanente plan Apria is offering.

Keep informed about your plan

The plan works much like the 2013 Kaiser Permanente Plan offered by Apria, though the deductible and some benefits may have changed. Even before you reach your deductible, most doctor’s office visits, radiology services, and lab tests are still covered at a copay or coinsurance, and most preventive care services—like routine physical exams, mammograms, and cholesterol screenings—are covered at little or no cost to you.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

Your plan also comes with the option to open a health savings account (HSA)1. Once you’re enrolled in your plan, you can contribute tax-free dollars funds to it2. Use it to pay for a range of qualified medical expenses3 and to help offset your deductible.

Understanding Preventive Care Services

Your plan covers most preventive care services and preventive care drugs at little to no cost, even before you reach your deductible. See what services and drugs are considered preventive:

1Enrollment in an HSA-qualified high-deductible health plan is just one of the HSA eligibility rules. Some additional rules include that you may not be (1) covered by another health coverage plan that is not also an HSA-compatible plan, with certain exceptions, (2) enrolled in any portion of Medicare, or (3) able to be claimed as a dependent on another person’s tax return. Most HRA and FSA arrangements provided through an employer are considered another health coverage plan for HSA purposes and will make you ineligible for an HSA. Contact your employer for more information.

2 In 2013, the maximum amount the IRS allows you to contribute to your HSA is $3,250 for single and $6,450 for family coverage, plus an additional contribution of $1,000 for those 55 and older.
