Fall 2022 Flu Shot Campaign (All employees)
The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against influenza (flu) is to get an annual flu vaccine, ideally by the end of October. Flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to hospitalization, or even death. The CDC recommends everyone six months and older get an annual flu vaccine as the first and most important action to protect against flu and its potentially serious complications.
How to get a flu shot:
Option 1 (Recommended): The best way to get a flu shot is through your local pharmacy.
- If you are on an Aetna Plan, visit any in-network retail pharmacy such as CVS, Walgreens, Target, Publix, or Kroger. You will need to present your Emory CVS/Caremark prescription drug card to get a free flu shot.
- If you are on the Kaiser Plan, attend one of the Kaiser Walk-In Flu Clinics offered Monday-Friday 8am-5pm at their medical office locations (no appointment is necessary).
Option 2: Get a flu shot as part of your preventive exam at your doctor’s office. Flu shots are free of charge for Aetna or Kaiser Plans, but for the Aetna Plans, you must use Tier 1 and Tier 2 doctors only. Note: if you’ve already had your annual preventive exam and make an appointment for a flu shot, you may be charged for the visit.
**For 2022-2023, Emory strongly encourages University students, faculty, and staff follow public health guidance and stay up to date with flu vaccine recommendations. Emory University students and employees working in a healthcare facility will be required to follow the guidance and vaccine recommendations of the facility in which they work.

An Ounce of Prevention = A Pound of Cure: Screening mammogram (40+ years old with risk of breast cancer)
A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast. The purpose of a mammogram is to help detect early signs of breast cancer. A person with average risk for breast cancer should consider getting a mammogram every year beginning at age 40. Talk with your doctor to see if this is right for you.
If you are covered by an Emory medical plan, there is no out-of-pocket cost for a mammogram. A mammogram is considered preventive care and is covered at 100% (no cost to you) if in-network providers are used (Tier 1 & 2 for the Aetna HSA and POS plans); out–of-network coverage will be subject to plan provisions after satisfying the deductible. A mammogram is also covered at 100% if you have the Kaiser Permanente Plan.
If you don’t have a doctor and you are on an Emory medical plan, you can search for primary care providers and specialists who participate in the Aetna plans at www.aetna.com/docfind/custom/emory or you may call Aetna at 800-847-9026. Kaiser Permanente members may search for facilities, primary care providers, and specialists at www.kp.org/doctors, or you may call 404-365-0966.
Primary care providers may refer you to a specialist for this procedure, but always make sure the specialist is in-network if you want the procedure covered at 100%.
To schedule a screening at an Emory facility, please call:
- Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, or Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital: 404-778-PINK.
- Emory Decatur Hospital: 404-501-7243, Option 4.
