Frequently asked questions

Here are some answers to questions you may have while considering Connected Care with Kaiser Permanente.

Do I get to choose my own doctor?
Answer text is hidden.

Yes. In fact, we encourage you to. As soon as you’re a member, you can choose your personal physician from one of our Patient Centered Medical Homes at Kaiser Permanente, or The Portland Clinic. (You can change your doctor later for any reason.) Together, you and your doctor can decide what it will take for you to get and stay healthy. You will not have to negotiate with an insurance company for pre-authorizations or specialty care referrals. And you don’t just get a personal physician—you get the support of an entire health care team, including nurses, specialists, and health educators, who can help you find the resources you need to meet your health goals.

How do I choose my doctor?
Answer text is hidden.

You can use our Web site to search for a primary care clinician within the Medical Home who is right for you. You can search by location, gender, specialty, and language spoken. You can call the Intel Connected Care Team for help selecting a doctor. You can change your doctor for any reason. Find out more about choosing a physician.

Where can I get care?
Answer text is hidden.

When seeking care in the Portland metro area, visit one of our Medical Home locations, which include 33 Kaiser Permanente facilities and  The Portland Clinic locations. If you or a dependent are outside the Portland Metro area, visit one of our First Choice Health regional PPO providers in WA, OR, ID, AK, MT, WY, ND or SD. Travelling or have a dependent living further away? Visit one of our First Health national “wrap” providers.

How do I make an appointment
Answer text is hidden.

Once you register on kp.org, you can request routine appointments online. If you prefer, you can also call the Intel Connected Care Team at 1-844-533-2885 (option 1) to make or change appointments.

How does my deductible work?
Answer text is hidden.

With your deductible plan, you’ll pay the full charges for covered services until you reach your deductible. Then you’ll start paying less — a copay or a coinsurance. Download this guide to learn what to expect before, during, and after your visit — so you can avoid surprises and better understand and manage your health care costs.

Can I get my questions answered over the phone?
Answer text is hidden.

Yes. Representatives on the Intel Connected Care Team are available to help you find information on the following:

  • benefits and coverage, including adding or deleting dependents, getting copies of your health care coverage terms, claims, and the dispute resolution process
  • copayments and billing
  • enrollment and eligibility
  • ID cards, including replacing lost or stolen cards
  • services, including healthy living classes and support groups
How do I register for features online?
Answer text is hidden.

Start here from a computer (not a mobile device) and follow the sign-on instructions. You’ll need your medical record number/health record number, which you can find on your Kaiser Permanente ID card. Once you are registered you can sign on to our secure features on My Health Manager.

Why would I be asked about my family when I register or reset my password?
Answer text is hidden.

Our website confirms a member’s identity through knowledge-based authentication (KBA), which uses public information — such as real estate, city and county government, and DMV records — to create questions only the member should be able to answer. Sometimes, the system will ask about relatives: children, parents, spouses, or in some cases, ex-spouses. The process is fully secure and private; your identity and those of your family are always protected using KBA.

How can I find my secure messages?
Answer text is hidden.

When you have a new message from Kaiser Permanente — from your doctor or care team, or from departments such as Member Services or Appointment Services — you will receive a notice in your personal email with a link to your secure mailbox on this website. When you go there, any new messages will appear in boldface. Be sure to add our email addresses to your contact list to make sure you get these notices.

Will all of my lab test results show up in my online medical record?
Answer text is hidden.

The test results we can show online on My Health Manager are limited to results released by a Kaiser Permanente practitioner. Please be aware that not all your test results may be available at the same time. Some test results may still be pending. Some tests cannot be released electronically or because of regulatory restrictions. If you have a question about a specific test result, please contact your health care practitioner.

How do I pay for my online Rx refill when I want it delivered?
Answer text is hidden.

When refilling a prescription for mail delivery, we will ask for credit card information if there is a copayment with any prescription in your order. After your refill has been mailed, we will send you a confirmation email showing the amount, if any, actually billed to your credit card. If your benefit plan has recently changed and there is an amount due for a refill order, then you will receive a bill in the mail after the pharmacy has mailed your order. If you have any questions about your copayment or your bill, please call the number on your prescription bottle.

Can I see my charges before submitting an Rx refill?
Answer text is hidden.

We currently are unable to show charges when you refill your prescriptions online. After your refill has been mailed, we will send you a confirmation email showing the amount, if any, actually billed to your credit card.
